Is AA religious or spiritual?

AA is not a religious organization, but it does have a spiritual component. The 12 Steps of AA involve a Higher Power, which each member can interpret according to their own beliefs and understanding. This Higher Power does not have to be associated with any specific religion, and AA welcomes individuals from diverse backgrounds and belief systems. Spirituality is an essential aspect of the AA program, as it encourages personal growth, reflection, and connection with a power greater than oneself. This spiritual foundation helps members develop coping mechanisms and find inner strength to overcome addiction and maintain sobriety.
